The current field of participants at the LONGINES CHI CLASSICS BASEL
Twelve of the top 15 riders in the LONGINES FEI Jumping World Cup™ Western European League will be competing in Basel. Leading the current interim rankings is Willem Greve from the Netherlands, ranked 23rd in the world. Alain Jufer is the highest-ranked Swiss rider in 9th place.
The world number 6 and European champion, Richard Vogel (GER), with his impressive stallion United Touch S, and last year’s winner, World Cup winner in Basel and current world number 10, Julien Epaillard (FRA), who will be competing with his top horse Donatello d’Auge, are the top seeds in Basel.
Unfortunately, there have also been some last-minute cancellations shortly before the 15th edition of the LONGINES CHI CLASSICS BASEL from 8 to 11 January 2026. Ben Maher, Gilles Thomas, Marcus Ehning, Christian Ahlmann, Basel native Géraldine Straumann and dressage riders Ingrid Klimke and Jessica von Bredow-Werndl will not be competing in Basel. Unfortunately, her horse Diallo passed away this morning. „It is of course a shame that we have to do without these top riders. Most of the cancellations are due to health problems affecting the riders or their horses,“ says CHI President Thomas Straumann.
The home crowd can look forward to seeing some strong Swiss riders in action. These include Martin Fuchs, winner of the 2025 Aachen Grand Prix; Steve Guerdat, Olympic champion in London in 2012, who returned to the saddle at the CHI de Genève in mid-December after his second back operation; Barbara Schnieper and Guillaume Gillioz from Valais, winner of the Les Trois Rois Swiss Cup Final.
