Starting the new year with a tailwind

With just under a week to go before the start of the tournament, we look ahead with the Chefs d’Equipe, starting with the discipline of show jumping and Michel Sorg, who has held this post since the fall of 2020.

“To start the year right away with a five-star tournament at home, that’s wonderful. Our anticipation for the tournament in Basel is even greater after two cancellations. Of our 17 Swiss show jumpers who are allowed to start, seven are seeded for Sunday’s World Cup competition. Six have the chance to qualify for Sunday’s finale with a top result in the Longines Grand Prix on Friday evening. Of course, I hope that we can continue the small tradition with Swiss victories. In 2019 Martin Fuchs won the first World Cup competition in Basel with the legendary Clooney, in 2020 Steve Guerdat won on Victorio des Frotards. We will do our best to make sure that the Swiss anthem will also sound at the third World Cup competition in the St. Jakobshalle and are looking forward to the support from the home crowd.”
