Basel becomes the capital of Equestrian Sport in April 2025

Switzerland and Basel can look forward to a major sporting event: for the first time, the city will host the equestrian highlight of the indoor season 2025. With the FEI World Cup™ Finals organised from 2 to 6 April 2025 in the three disciplines of show jumping, dressage and vaulting, it will be the most important equestrian event ever held in Switzerland.

The organisers of the LONGINES CHI CLASSICS BASEL applied for the organisation of this major event at the beginning of the year and were selected at the first attempt. This was announced today by the international federation, the Fédération Équestre Internationale (FEI). For Dr. h.c. Thomas Straumann, Chairman of the Board of Directors of CHI Classics Basel Ltd, today is a day of great joy. „In 2010 we started with our first international show jumping tournament. The fact that only 15 years later we can already host the highlight of the indoor season is another outstanding milestone we have achieved. It is very important to me personally to make a contribution to equestrian sport and also to the Basel region with the annual tournament, but of course especially with the FEI World Cup™ Final 2025.”

FEI President Ingmar De Vos said: „Since the premiere in 2010, Basel has grown into a world class venue and we are confident that the FEI World Cup Finals 2025 will be organised at the highest level.“ After 1996 and 2010 in Geneva, 2025 will be the third time that Switzerland will host the FEI Jumping World Cup™ Final. It will be a first for Dressage and Vaulting. After the Olympic Games and the World Championships, the FEI World Cup Final is the most important event in equestrian sport. Damian Müller, President of the Swiss Equestrian Federation, is suitably enthusiastic: „It is a great pleasure, honour and opportunity for our sport that we are able to host a World Cup Final in three disciplines – two of them Olympic – in our country. This has never happened before and is therefore of great importance for equestrian sport in Switzerland and our federation.”

„We thank the FEI for the trust they have placed in us. Our very successful Swiss athletes have more than deserved to compete in the sporting highlight of the indoor season in their own country very soon,“ sums up OC President Andy Kistler. „What will be special is that we would also like to hold our annual tournament in January 2025. But now our main focus is on the next LONGINES CHI CLASSICS BASEL from 12 to 15 January 2023, which will feature dressage for the first time.“
